Stellarium for the sky
Stellarium is a beautiful, photorealistic sky explorer that runs on Linux, Windows, and Mac. It's stunning is all I can say.
Here's the view from our house, looking South, tonight, at around 8:20 PM.
You can zoom, pan, change time, and on and on. And it's got a night mode. You can also have it render the constellations, either schematically or as images.
Can't wait to try it out! This and Google Sky should do it.
