Parrot AR Drone
The drones are coming! The Parrot A.R. Drone is a quad-rotor device with a built-in 720p HD camera that stores data in a USB key or streams it to a WiFi device.
I can imagine flying this out to Eagle island to get some close ups of the nest. Among other things.

It runs Linux 2.6.32, has USB port, 1G DRAM. You can fly from 165 feet away--which presumably includes straight up. It has built-in sensors that will let you hover steadily regardless of height or wind (within limits). The controller software runs on iPhone and Android.
Nice toy for next spring. Or sooner if I want to give myself a reward.
