Foreign direct investment in the US
How much money has been invested in the US by foreign citizens and corporations?
[This report](https://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/RS21857.pdf) from the Congressional Research Service gives the current holdings, on a purchase basis, by foreign corporations and foreign nations. What would you guess?
The answer is that the cumulitive holdings, over all time, at purchase price is $2.65 trillion.
$1.85 trillion is from Europe and only $487 billion from Asia, of which $308 billion is from Japan. China is not broken out separately.
